Join the Alpaca Revolution!

Alpacas of Montana is both a working alpaca farm and the leading alpaca textile company. As a family owned business that does it all in a world with exponentially increasing prices we are currently accepting Alpaca Sponsorships to help keep our farm working to the best of its ability. Your support will go directly toward sponsoring the new baby alpacas and keeping the rest of their family members happy and healthy.

Know where your support will go:

  • HAY: Each year we buy roughly 50 - 60 tonnes of hay. From 1995 - 2020, the average hay price per ton has been around $130 to $140. Current hay prices are nearly 50% higher than they were from 1995 through 2020. We paid $285 per ton last year and are expecting to pay even more this year.
  • FERTILIZER: We have many pastures that need to be fertilized so our animals have grass to eat in addition to the hay. Since early 2021, the cost for fertilizing our pastures is up 300%
  • MEDICINE FOR THE ANIMALS: In the last year, we have paid $19,347 in vet bills.
  • SHEARING: Shearing is mandatory to keep the animals cool and healthy and costs have gone up 15% in the past two years.
  • GRAIN: We give our alpacas grain as an extra treat and in the last year prices have gone up 15.7%.
  • GUARD DOGS: Chili, Hazel and Finn are a crucial aspect of the farm that ensure everyone is safe and happy. They come with all sorts of vet bills and insurance, but their food prices alone are up 25% since 2020.
  • FENCING: Fencing is an important aspect of the farm, especially since we have intact males and females that we need to ensure are not breeding unless we explicitly want them to. There’s been a sky high demand for fencing materials and fence installation services recently and that coupled with limited availability and supply chain challenges have led to major surges in sourcing and months-long lead times for installation. The prices are up 30% to 50% over last year for materials.
  • GAS: We transport the alpacas to and from shows, to the vet, etc. and we also use gas to run our tractor on the farm. In 2021, customers at U.S. gas stations were charged $3.01 per gallon, up almost 39% from $2.17 in 2020.  US Retail Gas Price is at a current level of $4.285 per gallon.
  • CAMERAS AND FARM UPKEEP: We're spending a lot of time and energy insuring you all have the best experience with our live stream feed and it's a team effort we're all behind. By supporting us you're helping us improve all that we can offer.
  • INSURANCE: Insuring our animals is a must and their insurance is up 356% year over year

We know everyone is experiencing the impact of inflation, demands and shortages, COVID-19 and all of the repercussions of the current state of the world. Alpacas of Montana is a leading alpaca textile company currently housed on an alpaca farm! We live and breathe the alpaca lifestyle. Since raising the animals is financially difficult, we appreciate any support to take care of the incoming new babies and all of their herd members.

Why Choose Alpaca Fiber?

Discover the premium qualities that make alpaca the ultimate luxury fiber

Alpaca fiber has unique thermal properties that naturally adapt to your body temperature. The hollow fiber structure creates insulating air pockets that keep you warm when it's cold, while the breathable nature allows heat to escape when it's warm.

Unlike synthetic materials that trap moisture and heat, alpaca fiber wicks away perspiration while maintaining optimal comfort throughout the day.

Alpaca fiber is naturally lanolin-free, making it ideal for people with wool allergies or sensitive skin. The smooth fiber surface reduces irritation and itching that can occur with traditional wool.

The natural antimicrobial properties help resist odors and bacteria, keeping your garments fresh longer while being gentle on even the most delicate skin.

Alpacas have a minimal environmental footprint compared to other fiber-producing animals. They graze gently without damaging root systems, require less water, and produce more fiber per animal than sheep.

Our alpaca products represent a sustainable choice that supports traditional farming communities while providing you with a renewable, biodegradable luxury fiber that lasts for decades.

Alpaca fiber is renowned for its incredible softness and lustrous appearance. The fine diameter of the fibers creates a silky-smooth texture that rivals cashmere, while being significantly more durable.

Unlike other luxury fibers that may pill or lose their shape, alpaca garments maintain their beauty and softness for years, making them a worthwhile investment in your wardrobe.
