This hat is good for many different weather conditions. If you wear it with the ear flaps up it's analogous to a beanie style hat and is good for temperatures 30-40 degrees plus. Under 30 degrees I like to bring the ear flaps down but don't tighten cord. In very cold conditions 20 and below I tighten cord up and have used this hat into single digit temperatures without my ears or head getting cold. When you look at it that you're getting a hat that covers a wide degree of temperature variations the near $ 100 price tag to me it's worth it. I use this when I ride my bicycle all winter and my old method was to have several different winter hats depending on temperature. When you figure in the cost of several hats it's basically equivalent to the Alpaca's of Montana Windstopper hat but for me it's easier to just have one quality product that will give me years of usage.
My first purchased of an Alpaca product is a winner. I have been wearing a Carhartt insulated cap for a few years and wish for something warmer. The cap is it. It is MUCH warmer. And an added bonus one problem with all other caps is when you use the hoody of a jacket it pushes the cap down over your eyes. Which is very annoying. This cap for the most part stays in place. Not cheap, but is first rate. It is the first Alpaca piece but it won't be the last.
I wore this hat today for the first time while out trout fishing. It was 27 degrees and the wind was gusting but my head stayed toasty warm. I like the hat very much!
Couple of years ago have bought this hat for myself to wear it on my winter fishing trips. It’s the best hat one can find for extreme cold/ windy conditions.
Recently i bought another one as a gift for my fishing buddy and he really likes it .
Simply said there is no better hat for extreme cold weather on the market . With this hat the cold weather I won’t stop you spending all day on the river when temperatures plummet bello freezing.
Great Job Alpaca Team on designing this hat !
