seems to be perfect hat for late day dog walks, walking to ski lodge, and running around town during blustery days
I wore this hat for the first time today on a hike with a morning temperature of 37. The hat was plenty warm. By the time the temperature had risen to about 45, my head was getting hot, but I was also climbing steeply uphill. The hat was never itchy or uncomfortable and fits very well. It would certainly keep your head warm in very cold temperatures, but may be too warm for strenuous activities in milder temperatures.
Very comfortable warm and looks great!
I waited a couple of weeks to write this review so I could test the hat out in -20 below wind chill in Spokane. I have always had a difficult time staying warm in Spokane (transplanted from CA) and I've owned just about every type of coat or hat to keep warm. The best so far has been Filson and Swandri until I came across these hats from Montana. Today it was about 5 degrees with a 25mph wind so the wind chill was pretty extreme. I went for a hour walk with the hat and all I can say is it is the most comfortable and warm hat by far I've ever owned. The first day I got it I wore it inside for a few hours to see if it would get uncomfortable or sweaty and it never did get either. This hat is extremely well made and the adjustment works flawlessly. I'm a runner and I could see using this hat on cold weather runs. Not sure I want to use it for that but it could easily do a great job. I was amazed that I was extremely warm but I never did sweat. I've had Filson wood hats as well as Carhart and after 20 minutes they become uncomfortable and eventually they caused my head to sweat. Pay a little more and get the best. I will be trying their socks to see how they compare to Smartwool socks.
This was ordered as a Christmas present but I was allowed to try it on when it arrive. It looks amazingly identical to the picture and fits perfectly. I can't wait to actually use it in a few weeks.
