I was surprised to see that this is 30% silk (and 1% cotton), and thus was NOT surprised that it's silky soft against the skin, as is ideal for a base layer. IT's light, but the weight and loft are preferable to the super-light fabrics that one can fall into unawares.
The wife felt of the fabric and looked at the finish and ordered two for herself.
This is warmer than my wool hoodie and lighter. Packs down small. Very comfortable material and it wicks moisture away well. Intended it for backpacking as wool tends to pill under backpack straps. But it also looks great to wear as casual, dress wear or even business casual. I'm 6' 1" 210 and medium build. The large size fits comfortable as a base layer and as a mid layer. Great product and glad to support a local USA business. Thanks AofM!
Website states alpaca and silk as the only products in this garment. When it arrived tag showed cotton as the product against the skin.
The goal of the Alpaca Base Layer pullover is high technical functionality within several different categories - breathability, wicking, body temperature moderation, durability and wearability (next to skin softness). The 1% Cotton is mixed with the 29% Silk for the interior to help strengthen the silk as the liner of the Base Layer as well as ensures a smooth, super comfortable feel against the skin which is important for anyone with any type of allergy-based to wool. The outside of the shirt is Royal Alpaca. When the moisture on the cotton touches the alpaca, the moisture is automatically wicked away, as alpaca has 85% greater wicking ability than wool. Thus, the make-up of the base layers is 70% royal alpaca, 29% silk/1% cotton that is blended with the silk.
Excellent - much nicer than advertised. Highly recommend!
This is a very soft base layer with a great fit.
